This position is located at the Dulles International Airport in Dulles, Virginia

JOB DESCRIPTION: The electrical / controls technician shall be a licensed electrician and is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of process control systems for MWAA Baggage Handling Systems (BHS).
  • The Lead electrical / controls technician shall be able to read and modify PLC code and shall understand how to configure PLC's and load programs onto PLC's.
  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and navigates Process Logic Controllers (PLCs) for automation systems.
  • Demonstrates technical aptitude with low voltage circuits.
  • Assists with data and inventory of field equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Monitor daily operations and statistics of the baggage system to determine problems areas.
  • Troubleshoot and repair all electrical and control components of the BHS system.
  • Analyze all data from the BHS to determine problems and trends that may lead to future problems.
  • Make necessary changes to the PLC controllers, through the approved MWAA airports Authority Systems Configuration Management processes, to maintain and enhance the performance of the BHS systems.
  • Provide preventative maintenance services, clean, troubleshoot and repair all electrical/controls equipment, including but not limited to PLC, Input / output controllers', and communication hardware, Tuning and optimizing of the PLC controllers program, all networks and network hardware, motor control panel componentry, laser scanner arrays, Manual encoding Consoles, Computer peripherals including mouse, keyboards, and printers, DC control equipment, graphical status displays and computers, computer monitors, trouble-shoot and repair all electrical circuits.
  • Responsible for general cleanup of all work areas and in/around equipment at a frequency required to maintain units free of trash, dirt and debris that might otherwise affect equipment performance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is similar to airport operation with vehicular traffic. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, cold, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employees will work on an airport ramp around aircrafts and around heavy equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of a Electrical / Controls Tech, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds. Ability to work in outside weather conditions on an airport ramp around aircrafts and the confined areas of baggage conveyor systems. Specific vision abilities required by this job include good close proximity vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Good hand / eye coordination is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years' experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and installation of Process Control Systems (SCADA and DCS), or in a related field.
  • Ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work all designated work schedules.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Skill in using desktop business applications, including Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and an individual self-directed environment, including coordination with end users, internal and external customers, consultants, and vendors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work hours other than regular schedule such as days, nights, weekends, holidays, on-call, and rotating shifts.
  • Ability to operate a company vehicle daily.
  • Ability to proficiently utilize laptop computers, multi-meters, and other calibration equipment.
