The AIR 5428 Pilot Training System partners with the Australian Defence Force for development of its military pilot workforce at four operating bases, RAAF Base East Sale, RAAF Base Pearce, RAAF Base Edinburgh, and RAAF Base Williamtown. Implementing a tailored learning solution, Lockheed Martin leads the delivery of this approach for all Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Australian Navy and the Australian Army candidates; as well as supporting operations for other key Australian Defence Force aviation units.

About you:

  • Qualifications in a relevant discipline of aviation and/or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment
  • Substantial experience a training environment / delivery of training services.
  • Substantial experience in face-to-face facilitated learning techniques.
  • Experience in an aviation training environment.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a member of the team as well as independently.
  • Ability to pre-empt problems and create opportunities for improvements.
  • Ability to understand and articulate a Training Plan and recommend adjustments to the training system as required.
  • Excellent technical writing and editing skills.
  • High level of expertise in Microsoft Office Suite.
Desirable
  • Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment. Alternatively LMA will support training
  • Knowledge of ADF systems approach to Defence Learning and Manual of Air Force Education and Training.
  • Experience within a military aviation training environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

You will be required to provide training and subject matter expert level advice for the delivery of Ab-initio Pilot Training Courseware. This will involve the completion of tasks including but not limited to:
  • Provide subject matter expertise (SME) advice on ground school training activities.
  • Support the design of new programs, providing ground school instruction on a wide range of aircraft subjects including: Aircraft systems, operation procedures, emergency procedures, troubleshooting, navigation, aerodynamics, radio communications, ADF air regulations, and ADF policies.
  • Responsible for administering, and scoring tests, maintaining class records, and determining and reporting on student proficiency.
  • Support the development of new methods, techniques, and training aids for increased efficiency.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of training materials
  • Evaluate student performance, offer student counselling, and provide special instruction for weaker students as required.
  • Attend and contribute to customer meetings as required
  • Independently determine and develop an approach to solutions that are innovative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organisational objectives.
  • Liaison with ADF flying school executive team.
  • Provide classroom instruction in aviation subjects.
  • Administer, and score tests, maintain class records, and determine and report on student proficiency.
  • Translate customer needs/requirements into effective, instructionally sound, training products.
  • Maintain required training records, files, and reports.
  • Conduct student remedial ground school training and assessment.
  • Develop new methods, techniques, and training aids for increased efficiency
  • Proven ability to adapt and maintain a flexible approach to changing needs or priorities
