AIRPORT MAINTENANCE WORKER
Annual Compensation: $49,747 Hire with no CDL $55,274 Hire with a CDL entry. Additional contract increases in FY2024 & FY2025

A Brief Overview
Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Foreman and the general supervision of the Department Manager, the Airport Maintenance Worker will use a wide array of tools and motorized equipment to complete maintenance work on the airfields at Detroit Metro and Willow Run Airports. An individual in this role will perform a variety of maintenance tasks, including but not limited to: snow removal, repairing and maintaining signage, manholes and storm sewer structures, asphalt patching, and repairing security fencing throughout the Airport Complex.

The Airport Maintenance Worker will also respond to Airport emergencies and provide support services for first responders and emergency response teams. This position is part of a 24/7/365 day operation which will include: weekends, holidays and overtime.

What you will do
  • Operates and services a variety of power and maintenance equipment, including, but not limited to: batwing, trimming and finishing mowers; dump trucks with under-blades, snow removal equipment and jack-hammers, etc.
  • Performs general maintenance and construction work, including but not limited to: asphalt paving on runways and other paved areas; snow removal and road sweeping on restricted and public access areas.
  • Erects and maintains signs on the public access roadways.
  • Responds to on-airport emergencies and assists the Public Safety and other Airport Divisions as needed.
  • Collects and removes trash and debris found throughout the Airport Complex.
  • Repairs damaged security fencing in accordance with Airport Security Guidelines.
  • Cuts grass and remove weeds; removes rubber build-up on runways; puts away stock and supplies.
  • Assists Facilities, Trades Maintenance, Fleet Services and Inventory Management Unit as needed.
  • Maintains fuel farm under direction of the Certified Fuel Farm Operator, when assigned to Willow Run.
  • Moves furniture, office equipment, supplies and materials throughout the complex for Airport Authority employees
  • Clears and removes snow using shovels and walk behind snow blowers and other mechanical equipment at Airport Authority locations as needed
  • Performs minor repairs throughout Airport Authority facilities such as re-lamping light fixtures, assembling furniture and other various repairs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency
  • Have Basic Computer Skills
  • Candidates must obtain a Commercial Driver License (CDL-A) with an "N" endorsement within probationary period.
  • Candidates hired with a Commercial Driver License (CDL-A) must have or obtain an "N" endorsement within 120 days of hire.
