Come and join the team delivering Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport as we develop amazing career opportunities across Sydney's cultural heartland.

An airport that will be the future of aviation, Western Sydney International will open to international, domestic and air cargo services in late 2026, eventually growing to become Sydney's primary airport and one of Australia's biggest gateways to the world.

The Traineeships

The Traineeships will kick-start your career and support your development as you work towards a qualification. You'll gain incredible experience that will develop your business, technical and people skills - elevating your professionalism and longer-term employability. We're excited to offer 3 paid Traineeships:

  • Terminal Services

This is our team that's developing Airport Terminal operations that will deliver an outstanding customer experience. You'll join workgroups and meetings, be able to research airport ground handling and airline operations, prepare reports and provide administrative support. This traineeship is perfect if your passionate about customer service!

  • Airfield Services

If your passionate about Aviation, this is the Traineeship for you! You'll be part of the team developing our Airfield operating procedures, Airfield management & technology systems and even work on our wildlife hazard management plans! You'll be involved in airport trials and testing, assist with the development of system processes and training guides plus provide administrative support to the team.

  • Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC)

The nerve centre of WSA, the AOCC monitors all aspects of airport operations, including air traffic, ground handling, security, and facilities. You'll support the team developing technology systems, airport procedures and participate in airport trials. You'll also provide administrative support and assist with broader Airport Operations.

How it works:
  • You'll need to commit to the Traineeship for a 12-month period, commencing early 2025.
  • Suitable for students who are about to complete Year 12 or equivalent.
  • Paid work experience to accelerate your learning journey, offering vital on-the-job opportunities.
  • You're motivated to successfully complete formal training with TAFE during the Traineeship.
  • Working 4 days p/week at WSA and 1 day p/week at TAFE.
  • You'll receive membership to WSA's Early Careers Network.
  • Trainees are assigned a 'buddy/mentor' to provide informal guidance and support.

About You:
  • Currently in year 12 / HSC or equivalent.
  • Passionate about a future in Airport Operations.
  • Willing to undertake a formal qualification at TAFE.
  • Highly motivated to learn and achieve great results.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office packages.
  • Ability to foster trusted relationships & exceptional customer service with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Must have a keen sense of initiative by being a self-starter, with a proactive approach.
  • High attention to detail, checking all tasks for accuracy and quality, and seek to make improvements where possible.
  • Flexible and adaptive team player who enjoys a challenge.
  • Have your own transport to attend our locations at Luddenham and Liverpool.
