The UPMC Center for Emergency Medicine is looking to hire a Chief Pilot to support STAT MedEvac.

Schedule:
  • 40-hour work week
  • 80 hours per pay period

Purpose:

The STAT MedEvac Aviation Department Chief Pilot is responsible for executing all company policies; and for establishing operations, personnel, and equipment standards in accordance with directives promulgated by the Director of Operations. The Chief Pilot supervises all flight crew personnel and may appoint an Assistant Chief Pilot, and Base Site Managers as approved. The Chief Pilot will also conduct pilot training and checking/qualification flights in support of the training department pilots.

Responsibilities:
  • Obtain and maintain qualification as a company check airman
  • Coordinate all flight and training activities and ensure flight crew standardization, to include the establishment of flight safety procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain proficiency records, pilot files, flight schedules, duty time records, reports, and correspondence pertaining to flight operations activities.
  • Coordinate and implement those policies, and all other matters pertaining to air carrier operations, to include signing FAA Operations Specifications when required.
  • Disseminate information to all crew members pertaining to routes, airports, NOTAMS, NAVAIDS, company policies, and regulations.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Training all flight activities end ensure flight crew standardization, to include the establishment of flight safety procedures.
  • Advise the Director of Operations on the status of all flight operations.
  • Assist the Director of Operations in formulating operations policies.
  • Ensure all flight crew personnel are certified and supervise according to the requirements specified in the FARs.
  • Maintain proficiency as Pilot-in-Command.
  • Further ensure that all flight crew personnel conform to standard procedures as outlined in FAA regulations, Operations Specifications, and company policies, and ensure that all pilots maintain current flight, medical, and route qualifications in accordance with applicable regulations Ops Specs and policies.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Training regarding appointment of sufficient Check Airmen to ensure all flight crew personnel conform to standardized operational procedures as set forth in applicable FAA regulations, Ops Specs, and company policies.
  • Advise the Director of Operations regarding the training of flight crew personnel.
  • Maintain appropriate flight records and submit reports regarding operations and flight crew personnel to the Director of Operations.
  • Schedule flight crew personnel including assigning Pilot-in-Command duties.
  • Ensure all CEM aircraft are properly equipped for applicable operations to include providing an adequate and current flight kit, and approval checklists for each aircraft.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of commercial rotorcraft certificate with instrument rating and qualified to serve as PIC in at least one aircraft used by CEM.
  • Current second-class medical certificate.
  • Minimum of 3 years PIC experience under part 135.
  • Excellent aviation knowledge & understanding with respect to pertinent regulations, Ops Specs, and company policies
  • Minimum of 4-year college degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Commercial Pilot License (CPL)
