Position Summary

The Engineer Fleet reports to the Manager Fleet and develops optimum fleet performance by improving safety and reliability in a cost-effective manner. The Engineer Fleet coordinates and leverages the required resources to effect changes for increased fleet safety and performance.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Identifies technical issues and recommends action plans to optimize fleet performance and improve safety margins and reliability in a cost-effective manner
  • Monitors fleet performance and develops programs for continuous improvement and ensures operational availability requirements are met
  • Supports processes related to the technical evolution of the JetBlue fleet
  • Organizes periodic reviews of fleet programs
  • Monitor's life cycle costs and identifies areas for improvements
  • Interfaces with the Aircraft Manufacturer and other aircraft operators to resolve fleet technical issues and maintain currency with fleet issues, techniques and practices
  • Coordinates with stakeholders within Technical Operations to determine magnitude, scope and duration of proposed projects
  • Prepares and presents proposals, reports / presentations to management on future projects with both technical and financial justifications and resource plans
  • Identifies program issues and drives resolution with affected functional areas
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to achieve departmental and Company objectives
  • Develops 3 and 5-year aircraft operational cost models
  • Maintains awareness of Extended Twin Operations (ETOPS) significant systems
  • Monitors and resolves technical issues associated with ETOPS operations. Assists the department to establish, administer and ensure the quality of the ETOPS Significant Systems Program. Assists the department to ensure ETOPS aircraft continue to meet requirements for configuration, maintenance and procedures for extended range operations
  • Promotes communication and interaction among stakeholders to identify and address technical issues including Air Transportation Association (ATA) Engineers, Flight Ops, Inflight, and Fleet Programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Science, or a related field; OR a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe Technician Certificate or FAA Powerplant Technician Certificate
  • Three (3) years of experience in aircraft maintenance, aircraft quality, or airline engineering
  • Diverse experience in all aspects of technical operations and aircraft systems
  • Technical knowledge of aircraft and engines, coordinating contracts, managing technical changes with business partners, collaborating with Engineering on Service Bulletins & Service Letters
  • Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team player
  • Ability to take initiative and make sound judgments
  • Ability to prioritize and track daily activities to ensure timely task completion
  • Ability to prepare and present concise written, verbal reports and presentations
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong analytical abilities
  • Must be in possession of valid travel documents with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Preferred Experience and Qualifications
  • Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe & Powerplant License
  • Passionate for learning about aircraft and aircraft maintenance, and capable of self-studying to further develop aircraft and technical knowledge
  • Working knowledge of FAA regulations, Manufacturer Maintenance Review Board (MRB) / Maintenance Planning Documents (MPD) processes
  • Experience with A320/A321/A220/E190 aircraft
  • Experience with PW1100/1500, V2500 engines
  • Experience with Maintenance Program analysis and escalation processes
  • Basic understanding of maintenance & engineering database programs i.e., TRAX, Snowflake
  • Basic understanding of coding languages i.e., SQL, Python
  • Basic understanding of data analytics programs i.e., Skywise, Tableau
  • Understanding of aircraft specifications

Crewmember Expectations:
  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft
  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun
  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue's Safety Management System
  • Promote JetBlue's #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue's Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy and behavioral standards
  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue's confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue's safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
  • The use of ChatGPT or any other automated tool during the interview process will disqualify a candidate from being considered for the position.

Physical Effort:
  • Light physical effort required by handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. (Light)

Compensation:
  • The base pay range for this position is between $90,000 and $118,400 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue's total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
